The Principals of Capvest Venture Fund firmly believe that
the success of its investments is highly dependent on
the leaders of the portfolio companies. To this end, Capvest
Venture Fund has jointly developed an exclusive and proprietary
three-step evaluation and training module with the Gestalt
Institute and Dr. Norman Shub, an organizational consultant
who has over thirty years' experience in coaching business
leaders and integrating disparate cultures in merger and
acquisition transactions. The model commences pre-investment,
continues through an exit and focuses on the company's
vision, leaders, executive committee, organizational structure
and potential for success.
Stage
One: Early-Stage Evaluation. The Fund and the organizational
consultant perform a half-day assessment to focus on
the company's vision, leaders, executive committee,
organizational structure and potential for success.
This is an early-stage evaluation of organizational
competency, commitment, and capacity of leaders. The
purpose of this analysis is to give the Principals a
tool they can use in the earliest stages when they have
decided that a company is worth a serious look. The
Principals are provided a report that gives a snapshot
into the health, effectiveness, efficacy, and potential
success of the company. This evaluation process, we
believe, will significantly improve the chances for
long term success.
Stage
Two: Leadership Training and Evaluation. When a
term sheet is executed, the organizational consultant,
with the participation of the Principals, will conduct
a weekend training session that provides
the potential portfolio company an opportunity to learn
about themselves and their organization, while also
flushing out the deeper issues that need to be resolved
and potential problems that will emerge as the company
continues to grow. In addition, this model of training
allows the Principals access on the deepest level to
the skills, capacities, and strengths and weaknesses
of the leader, the executive committee, the organizational
operation, and the vision itself. Having a real training
model that allows direction and focus is a significant
asset in ensuring that these companies are successful
down the road. It is the Principals' belief that, in
concert with the early-stage organizational evaluation,
these tools will greatly improve the investment potential
and success of the portfolio companies.
Stage
Three: Ongoing Consultation. Once an investment
is made, the organizational consultant will provide
ongoing feedback and consultation by attending periodic
executive committee meetings, by providing on-the-spot
consultation as necessary, by providing ongoing evaluation
of the vision, organizational plan, personnel, morale,
structure, organizational development, recruiting, and
other areas. This periodic connection with portfolio
companies can be an incredibly powerful tool for use
by the Fund to keep the organizations moving in the
right direction, monitor the flow of their development,
and ensure that they are on track for success.
